Diagnosis And Repair Tips

Diagnosing and replacing a fuel pump is relatively easy to do if you have a few basic tools, a flat space to work, and a couple of hours of free time. Before you begin, there are two great tips that you should always keep in mind when working with the fuel system. Firstly, you want to be as safe as possible throughout the replacement. It is important to disconnect your Wrangler’s battery to ensure there’s no power running to the pump while it’s being replaced.

Once you’ve addressed the battery, it is also essential to note you want to be dealing with as little fuel as possible throughout the replacement. If the tank is filled up, dropping the fuel tank will become a much more laborious process as you fight the weight of the fuel. There are a few ways to address this beforehand; the easiest is to allow the car to run low on fuel. To replace the fuel pump be sure you’re on a flat surface and have disconnected the fuel filter and breather. Lower the tank just enugh to reach and disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connections running to the pump. Then lowed the tank completely to the ground for pump replacement.

Why Do Jeep Wranglers Have Fuel Pump Problems?

As we mentioned above, most times when a modern fuel pump fails, it is due to age or wear. While Wranglers don’t inherently go through pumps any faster than other passenger cars, they still can have unexpected failures from time to time.
